SANCTUARY DAYS

Sancutary Days were very fun for the dogs and humans! These were days we set aside to improve the sanctuary sites for the dogs. We invited over our volunteers and board members to work on projects, meet all of the dogs, and spend a day spoiling them. These typically took place in the spring and summer. We usually would end the day with a big BBQ to reward everyone for all of their hard work.

Typical Sanctuary Day events include:

Building fences

Giving dogs baths and clipping their nails

Medical check ups

Exercising dogs (fetch, springpole, hiking, swimming)

Doing hyrdrotherapy for the handicapped dogs

Running dogs through agility course

Dog training

Inventory meds and food

Building spring-poles, cleaning kennels, and of course cleaning up dog poop!

The photo above is an example of Buster utilizing the spring-pole. Springpole is one great way to exercise your pit bull. It can be a structure like the one above, or as simple as a rope hung from a strong tree branch. Pieces of tires or knotted rope can be used for them to grab onto and hang. This does not make them more aggresive! It is an amazing site to see, and is a fantastic workout for the dog with all of the jumping, swinging, and ab crunches!
